Pastoral Care and Safeguarding
Welcome to the Pastoral Care section of Panyathip British International School (PBIS). At PBIS, we prioritise addressing the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of our students through a comprehensive pastoral care programme. Our aim is to foster positive relationships, enhance self-esteem, develop social skills, and equip students with the necessary tools for successful navigation of challenges and transitions. The Pastoral Team has responsibility for each year group on a day-to-day basis, monitoring all aspects of a student’s experience, including attendance, behaviour and academic progress. We firmly believe that integrating pastoral care with academic, social, and emotional support is crucial for holistic development.
At PBIS, pastoral support and care are ingrained in every aspect of our approach. Our dedicated teachers and support staff take a positive approach to supporting all students, ensuring they feel safe, welcomed, and valued within our school community. We prioritise the well-being of our students, and our entire team is trained to recognise and report any signs of concern, ensuring effective safeguarding for every student.
Key Aspects of Pastoral Care at PBIS
Student Support
Our dedicated team of pastoral care coordinators and counsellors provides individualised support to address the unique needs of our students. They offer guidance and counselling, assist in goal-setting, help students make informed decisions regarding their academic and personal lives, and, if required, facilitate referrals to external services.
Personal, Social, Health and Education (PSHE)
Our curriculum incorporates a robust PSHE programme designed to promote emotional intelligence, resilience, empathy, conflict resolution, and other crucial life skills.
Bullying Prevention
We are committed to preventing and addressing bullying within our school community. Our pastoral care programme includes awareness campaigns, the implementation of anti-bullying policies, and the establishment of support systems for all students.
Discipline and Behaviour Management
PBIS maintains clear guidelines and expectations for behaviour, complemented by appropriate consequences. Our pastoral care personnel work closely with students and parents to address behavioural issues, foster positive discipline, and cultivate a respectful and inclusive school culture.
Student Welfare
We prioritise the welfare of our students by monitoring their well-being. Our pastoral care team remains vigilant when identifying signs of distress, abuse, or mental health concerns. We collaborate with parents, teachers, and external agencies to ensure students receive the support they need.
Transition Support
PBIS offers comprehensive pastoral care during significant transitions, such as starting a new school, changing year levels, or transitioning to higher education. We provide orientation programmes, peer support, and guidance to help students manage the academic and social challenges associated with these transitions.
Whole School Events
We organise whole school events such as International Day, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, Lao New Year, Lunar New Year, Mental Health Week, Anti-bullying Week, Pastoral Week and many more events to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and raise awareness of mental health issues.
By providing exceptional pastoral care, PBIS endeavours to create a supportive and nurturing environment that enables our students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. We are committed to their holistic development and well-being throughout their educational journey with us.
Safeguarding at PBIS
Every child should feel safe, cared for and advocated for at all times.
Panyathip British International School understands that our children have the right to be protected from harm, harassment, or abuse at all times, both in school and outside of school, regardless of their age, gender, ability, race or social background.
Therefore, PBIS is committed to providing a safe learning environment for its students. Our students’ welfare and safety are at the heart of our school’s ethos and in everything we do.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone in our school who comes into contact with children and their families receives safeguarding training to ensure they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify and respond to concerns about the well-being of children. All staff in our school consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of children.

Counselling
At PBIS, we prioritise the mental health and well-being of our students. Our dedicated school counsellor works collaboratively with students, parents, and teachers to cultivate a safe and nurturing school climate that is founded on trust and respect. By focusing on social and emotional development, our counsellor helps students navigate challenges, build resilience, and achieve their full potential in both the academic and personal realms.
School Counsellor's Roles and Responsibilities
Our school counsellor is a vital resource for students, families, and communities alike. By addressing the diverse needs of our students, we equip them with the necessary skills and tools to thrive in school and beyond. Through individual and group counselling sessions, workshops, and collaboration with teachers and parents, our counsellor ensures that students are well-prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.
If you or your child would like to benefit from our counselling services, please don't hesitate to reach out. Together, we can create a positive and empowering educational experience for every member of our school community.
